Heating System Conversions for the Summer:

When the weather is nice outside and the sun is shining it can be all too easy to forget about the efficiency of your heating system. However, if your poor old boiler is sitting alone in the cupboard, coughing and spluttering it’s last death throes, it may be best if take care of it in the summer months, instead of waiting for it to take its revenge during the winter months. Not convinced – here’s our top five reasons to have your heating system converted in the summer!

Low Cost Heating System Conversions:

Heating system issues and boiler breakdowns often happen in the colder months, often resulting in emergency call out charges. Generally speaking, most heating system conversions and boiler replacements are carried out in the winter, when they’re in high demand. Summertime is generally a lot quieter and for this reason can often be cheaper, so if you’re a savvy consumer, it makes sense to have your heating system converted or your boiler replaced during this off peak time. Also, as condensing boilers are much more energy efficient, you’ll carry on making savings on your heating bills, for years to come.

Fast Heating System Conversions:

As mentioned above, plumbers and heating engineers are often run off their feet during the winter season and can be booked out for weeks or even months in advance. Booking in your new boiler or heating system conversion in the summer time means that you avoid long waiting lists and can get the job done quickly and with minimum hassle.

Convert Your Heating System in the Summer for Extra Space:
The summer calls for a whole new wardrobe – but what if you don’t have the space? Getting a heating system conversion in the spring or early summer could be the answer to your problems. Having a new condensing boiler fitted, means that there is no longer a need for a hot water cylinder – which when removed during your heating system conversion, means more cupboard space for your summer wardrobe.

New System Conversion While You Holiday:

One of the great things about the summer is going on holiday, so why not schedule your holiday while you have a new heating system installed? Having a new condensing boiler fitted while you’re on holiday means that you avoid the disruption of work being done while you’re at home and also means that you’ll have a brand new boiler to avoid the winter blues.

Condensing Boilers are Better for the Environment:

One of the best times to get outside and enjoy nature and think about the environment is during the summer months. Having a brand new condensing boiler installed not only means that your heating bills will be reduced and that your heating will run more efficiently, it is also kinder to the environment, as condensing boilers produce more heat, whilst using less gas.

If you would like to know more about what type of condensing boiler is right for you or would like a free, no obligation quote, why not contact us today? Our heating engineers are experienced, Gas Safe Registered and qualified to give you a plumbing and heating service tailor made to your needs.

Hi, Im John, currently studying Plumbing Level 2 at South Thames College. I have been working with Steve (aquaheat.org.uk) as a trainee plumber shortly after starting my studies in September 2013. Most of the work is done in south west London like Balham SW12, Clapham SW4, Clapham Common SW4, Clapham South SW4, Tooting Bec Sw17, Tooting Broadway SW17, Earlsfiled SW18, Wandworths SW18, Wimbledon Sw19 and all over South East London, however we have fitted boilers and carried out boiler service in Croydon, Fulham and outside south London. I have picked up a lot of different skills and knowledge during my experience with Aquaheat which will prepare me for the working world.

I have learnt about protecting customer property to ensure there is no damage at the end of the job. I have gained experience and practice in the proper way to lift heavy loads to ensure that me and others around me are safe. I have gained experience in using different hand tools such as the hammer, chisel, files, screw drivers, adjustable spanner, foot grips, red handle grips, junior hacksaw, wood saw, pad saw etc. I have also used power tools such as the core drill, rechargeable power drill, circular saw, jig saw etc.

I have learnt about doing a boiler service and different materials and how and when they are used. Copper and its different sizes, polybutelene, condense pipes. And all these pipes come with their own fittings (elbows, Tee’s, couplings, reducers)

I have used brass fitting such as couplings, reducers, caps, ball o fix valve etc.

Aqua heat specialises in Boilers and Radiator (Gas and heating) but we take out other plumbing jobs too. I have gained knowledge on the different types of boilers, how they are installed and how they work. I have drained down, vented and filled up radiators. I have leant about using inhibitor at the end of the job to protect the pipes and radiators from corrosion.

I have been able to mount boilers on-to walls, mount radiators on-to walls and connected the valves and the pipes. I have soldered pipes together using the gas bottle, wire wool, flux, solder and a heat mat.

In this trade i have learnt there are no two jobs that will be the same, but there is always a way to get the job done and leave the customer satisfied. I have been on jobs where the boiler is mounted on and exterior wall making it very easy to sort out the flue, i have been on jobs where the boiler is in the basement. Also in the loft and i have been on jobs where the flue exits through the roof (scaffolding was required). Being a plumber requires us to have skills in different trades such as masonry (brick and cement work), electrical, carpentry, my tea making skills have also really improved since working with aquaheat.org.uk

The role is very exciting and despite the puzzles that we sometimes have to work out I am enjoying the work and experience. I have decided plumbing is definitely for me and I am looking forward to taking on more responsibility as a heating engineer and getting into the real working world.

Installation of a new Worcester Bosch 38CDI condensing boiler in Balham SW12

We are local plumbers in Balham SW12, and have been doing plumbing in Balham SW12 since 2004.
Just this Friday in Balham we completed an installation of a new Worcester Bosch 38cdi.

The new boiler was fitted on Sistova Road SW12, just around the corner from Pizza Express!

The original boiler was one of the first Baxi condensing boilers ever made and it was showing signs of extreme neglect such as rusting, making a banging noise when running and water leaks. The system seemed to have gained a lot of sludge due to these issues. The only way forward was to replace the boiler, as it would be too costly to repair.

So we took all the details and emailed the customer a quote, which was excepted, so we then booked in to do the works.
We arrived at the property at 7.15am, which is a normal start time for boiler installations. Our boiler installations usually take up to a day to complete. Firstly we have to drain down the whole heating system. Once this is done we have to shut off gas and water supplies. We then open all the vents and drain down, the boiler is carefully taken apart and removed. On this boiler replacement in Balham the customer wanted the new boiler installed to fit on the original boxing, but as the old boiler was a lot bigger than the new boiler we had to use a core drill to drill a new hole.

The local Balham plumber boiler supplier then arrived with the new Worcester Bosch 30cdi boiler, flue and chemical clean

We usually also fit the Worcester Bosch dt20rf stat with a new boiler, but this customer wanted to use his original stat as it was not very old. We unpacked the new boiler and parts, then we removed the fixing frame from the boiler box and fitted it to the wall. Once this is done, we made a start on fitting the pipe work to the frame. When we pipe up the frame, we have to cross over heating and hot water supplies to suit new locations. When this has been completed, we then look to install the main Worcester Bosch 38cdi boiler on the new frame which is screwed and fixed to the wall. In order to install one of these boilers, we require two people, especially to fit the main gas boiler, as they can be very heavy and this helps to avoid injuries to your back. We do not take any unnecessary safety risks when carrying out a new boiler installation.

Once the new boiler is installed on the frame we can then begin to connect all the pipe work. We then turn everything on and test the cold and hot supplies, checking for any leaks.
After this we turn on and test the heating system; firstly we fill and pressurize the heating system to check if we have any leaks, once this is done we can fill the system and flush through with mains water pressure. Finally we part drain and add inhibitor to the system as this stops any further sludge building up and damaging the new boiler.
We then test the gas for leaks. After the test as been passed, we fire up and commission the new boiler.
The customer was very happy to have his heating and hot water back on as the system broke down on boxing day so they had been left without a working boiler for a few days.
Once we have finished a boiler installation, we register the new boiler with Gas Safe and also register the boiler with Worcester Bosch. We are accredited Worcester Bosch installers and currently offer a seven year warranty on the boiler.

We install many new boilers in Balham, SW12 and have been plumbers in South West London since 2004.

If you are local to either Balham, South West London or West London, we can provide you with expert plumbing at heating services such as boiler repairs, boiler replacements and boiler servicing (and much more), using experienced Gas Safe Registered heating engineers. So why not contact us today? We’d love to hear from you!
